Ark Survival Ascended is Officially Adding a Creature From One of Its Best Mods

Ark: Survival Ascended developer Studio Wildcard is adding the Helicoprion to the game from one of its most popular community mods. The move comes as Studio Wildcard continues to incorporate player-created content in its ongoing expansion efforts for Ark: Survival Ascended, which launched in Early Access back in October 2023.

Ark: Survival Ascended has been receiving new content updates on a fairly regular basis, along with patches like v68.34, which was released back in July 2025 and addressed things like low frame rates and performance issues during sandstorms. Other troublesome bugs that have been reported by players were fixed for Ark: Survival Ascended in its earlier June 2025 update, including in-game progression and milestone issues pertaining to boss fights, gunpowder crafting, and silica pearls.
Survival Ascended Adding Helicoprion on August 20
Studio Wildcard recently revealed plans to add a new creature to Ark: Survival Ascended from the frequently downloaded “ARK: Additions” mod pack created by Garuga123. The creature in question is the Helicoprion, an extinct shark sometimes referred to as the “buzzsaw killer” — with visual characteristics in Ark: Survival Ascended befitting its nickname. In terms of temperament, however, Studio Wildcard reports the Helicoprion to be a creature that’s “mostly unbothered” with a preference for Ammonite and little desire to attack players unless provoked. Studio Wildcard also noted plans to fine-tune the Helicoprion as it “settles into its new home,” while hinting that crafters might find the creature useful thanks to its “strange, whorled jaw.”
The Helicoprion will make its fated arrival in Ark: Survival Ascended on August 20, 2025, and will be both free for all players, and easily accessible in-game without needing to download a mod. Aside from the previously mentioned crafting benefits, the Helicoprion will likely be tameable in Ark: Survival Ascended thanks to its docile nature, making it an excellent option for deep water exploration. As of right now, it’s unclear whether the Helicoprion will be suitable for breeding and mutations in Ark: Survival Ascended, but it stands to reason that if it's tameable, it’ll also be breedable.

Overall, it’s exciting to see the addition of cool aquatic creatures like the Helicoprion, adding to Ark: Survival Ascended's already impressive roster of tameable dinosaurs that can be used in raids. It’s nice that players have other things to look forward to beyond the Helicoprion as well, including Ragnarok transfers, which will open on August 15 and will allow players to move items, creatures, and characters onto the map without restriction. Additionally, temporary “Expire” servers will be available until September 1, 2025, and can be found by searching for “Expire” in the game’s session filter.
Studio Wildcard previously shared a comprehensive content roadmap for Ark: Survival Ascended back in January 2025 that indicates players can look forward to a “free Valguero Ascended with a community-voted free creature, and Fantastic Tame” in August 2025. Beyond this, players can also look forward to the rollout of “3 Fantastic Tames” in 2026.
